A foldable iPhone with two ways to use the screen

Apple announced iPhone Duo in September 2026 as its first foldable iPhone, with a smaller outer display and a larger 7.6-inch inner display. The device launched with iOS 27.1 and became available on October 23, according to Apple’s announcement. The larger display changes how the company presents multitasking and camera use: users can place two apps side by side, keep content visible while speaking with Siri AI, or use the outer display as a camera preview.

This is a new hardware format, but the value depends on more than screen size. A foldable device has a hinge, two display states, and software that must preserve continuity when the device opens or closes. Apple describes the product’s design and durability choices, but long-term durability and repair experience should be judged from real-world use over time rather than a launch announcement alone.

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are part of the device story

Apple says the iPhone Duo combines Apple Intelligence with access to personal context across apps. Its press release describes Siri AI as a beta feature with capabilities such as using context from messages and other apps, responding to onscreen content, and searching the web for current information. Feature and language availability can vary by region and setting; Apple notes that some functions are not available in every language or market.

Apple also describes on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute as parts of its privacy approach. Those are the company’s stated design claims. A user should still check the setting for each feature and understand when a request may involve server-side models, particularly because Apple says some server-dependent features have usage limits.

Camera features and media formats

Apple’s technical specifications list rear-camera recording up to 4K Dolby Vision at 120 frames per second on the Fusion Main camera, as well as HEVC and H.264 recording options. The phone also supports spatial audio and stereo recording. These capture settings can produce demanding files: higher resolution, frame rates, and HDR workflows may require more storage and compatible editing software.

The specifications describe supported modes, not a promise that every app will preserve them in export. Before recording a long event, confirm available storage and test the transfer and editing workflow. If a video will be shared with older equipment, export a compatible copy and keep the original camera file separately.

What is notable—and what still needs testing

The iPhone Duo brings three developments together: a foldable screen, camera features built around that shape, and Apple’s newer AI assistant experience. They are separate capabilities that may appeal to different users. Someone interested in multitasking may care more about the inner display; a creator may focus on the camera and file handling; another user may judge the AI features by supported language and privacy controls.

The launch information can establish the official specifications and announced features. It cannot establish whether the hinge will suit every routine, whether an AI response will be correct, or whether a particular third-party app supports each camera format. Those are practical questions to test against your own use.
